does anyone know of other EECP facilities in pittsburgh pa besides Mercy Hospital? its being moved further away from me.
I am very happy you have this discussion board. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
Thank you so much for your response. It makes a lot more sense to me now, because my cardiologist had said that I didn't need to take fish oil, but he didn't really explain why other than it doesn't really help for heart attacks. I try to eat fatty fish every so often, but I'm going to start aiming for 2 servings a week.
Thank you so much, Doc! You have a blessed day.
Carl,
Thank you for your question (and thank you Jane for providing the link). To respond, it used to be thought that fish oil supplements helped prevent heart attacks and strokes. This stemmed from the earlier scientific studies suggesting this benefit and also from the known fact that diets rich in omega-3 fats (such as fatty fish) are very beneficial for the heart.
However, more recent studies are now suggesting that while there is still much heart health benefits to eating fatty fish (getting omega-3 fats through food), getting omega-3 fats from fish oil capsules do not seem to confer the same heart health benefits.
If you would like a more detailed answer to this question, I have posted a blog article about this topic:

I hope this helps. Best wishes to you.

Carl, I recall that Puppydoc wrote a helpful post on this. It clarified a lot of things for me since I found the topic confusing as well. I can't seem to find the specific post at this moment, but I will post it if I find it.
Jane
Hi Dr. Phoebe (I figured you might not want to be addressed as "Puppydoc" outside of your blog even though it's really endearing). I was hoping you could clarify something about fish oil supplements. There's so much information out there that I don't know what to believe, but I know I can always trust you for nonbiased health information.
So my question is: should I take fish oil supplements to help prevent heart attacks?
Thank you for your time, doc!
